Temporary Power Poles Done Right

Temporary Power San Diego installs UL-listed temp power poles for construction sites across San Diego County. We pull the City of San Diego or county electrical permit, coordinate the meter set with SDG&E (San Diego Gas & Electric), build the pedestal to SDG&E spec, and meet the City inspector. Crew is energized in 2–3 weeks on most projects.

How We Work

One project manager runs your job from the first phone call through removal. Here's the flow:

1. Site walk and plan check

We meet you on site or review your plans to confirm the location, the amperage you need (100A, 200A, or 400A), and where the pole goes so it stays out of the way during the build.

2. Permit and SDG&E service request

We pull the City of San Diego or county electrical permit and file the service request with SDG&E. You don’t have to wait in line at Pacific Highway or chase paperwork — we run point.

3. Install and energize

A licensed crew sets the pole, lands the service wires, mounts the meter base, and gets the green tag from the City inspector. SDG&E releases the meter and you’re live.

When You Need Temporary Power Poles

If any of the following apply to your project, you need a temp power install before the trades show up:

  • The lot has no existing meter — new builds and tear-downs always need a temporary service before the permanent service can be set.
  • The existing meter has been pulled — major remodels often require the old service to come down. A temp pole keeps the site running.
  • You need power for trailers or tools — site offices, lifts, mixers, and welders need real amperage, not a long extension cord from the neighbor.
  • The inspector is asking for a green tag — inspectors in San Diego won’t sign off on framing or rough-in if the temp service isn’t compliant.
  • You’re stuck waiting on the utility — utility coordination is half the job. We’ve done it hundreds of times and know how to keep things moving.
  • Your existing temp pole isn’t enough — if you’re tripping breakers or your crew is daisy-chaining cords, you’ve outgrown your current service.

What Affects the Cost of Temporary Power Poles

We give every temp power pole install a flat price after the site walk — no surprises. The number depends on a few things:

  • Amperage. A 100A residential temp pole is the cheapest. 200A is common for multifamily and small commercial. 400A is for big sites with tower cranes or batch plants — that’s the most equipment and labor.
  • Distance from the utility drop. If the nearest power source is across the lot, you’ll pay for trenching or overhead wire. Closer drops are cheaper.
  • Permit type. City and county permits cost different amounts. We pull whatever the jurisdiction requires.
  • How fast you need it. Standard turnaround is 2–3 weeks — mostly waiting for municipalities.
  • Length of the rental. Most temp services run 3–18 months. Longer rentals get better monthly rates.
  • Removal. Removing the pole and restoring the site is included in our quote — no add-ons at the end.

Bottom line: we'll quote your job in one phone call. No high-pressure sales, no hidden fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get a temporary power pole installed in San Diego?

Typical timeline is 2–3 weeks from the day you call. That covers the City of San Diego (or county) electrical permit, the SDG&E service request and meter set, the install, and the inspection. Rush jobs are possible — call and ask.

Do you handle the SDG&E paperwork?

Yes. We submit the SDG&E service request, coordinate the meter spot to their spec, and push for the release. You get one point of contact for the whole process. On projects inside San Diego Community Power or Clean Energy Alliance territory, we coordinate the generation side too.

What amperage do I need — 100A, 200A, or 400A?

Most single-family remodels run on 100A. Multifamily and small commercial usually need 200A. Tower cranes, batch plants, and large MEP loads call for 400A. We will spec it on the call.

Are your poles UL-listed and code-compliant?

Yes — every pedestal we set is UL-listed and built to the current California Electrical Code amendments and SDG&E’s temporary service spec. GFCI receptacles, weatherproof while-in-use covers, proper bonding and grounding, the works.

What does a temporary power pole cost?

It depends on amperage, distance from the utility drop, permit type, and how fast you need it. We give every job a flat price after a short site walk — no hidden fees, removal included.
