El Cajon Temporary Power

El Cajon sits in a valley ringed by hills, and the valley traps heat in a way the rest of the county does not. Triple-digit afternoons through July and August are routine rather than remarkable, and every decision we make on an East County job accounts for it. Conductor derating, transformer loading, generator cooling airflow and where a spot cooler actually gets its make-up air are all live questions here in a way they simply are not in Encinitas.

The housing stock is the other defining feature. Much of El Cajon was built out between the fifties and the seventies, which means fuse panels, undersized services and a decent chance the existing electrical is not what the plans or the last owner claimed. On a remodel or an ADU that matters, because a temporary power pole in the yard is often not just convenient but the only safe way to run trades while the house service is opened up and brought to current code.

There is real industrial and commercial work here too, along Broadway, out toward Gillespie Field and through the light-industrial pockets on the west side. Those jobs pull three-phase and they pull it hard, and a shop that keeps running while a section is rebuilt needs the temporary service planned around the production schedule rather than around ours. We do those change-overs at night and on weekends more often than not.

Where the existing service simply will not support construction load on top of an operating business, a generator rental is the clean answer. We size it off the measured load rather than the nameplate total, because nameplate sizing on an industrial job routinely produces a set twice as big as the work needs, and an oversized diesel running lightly loaded wet-stacks and costs more to rent and to fuel.

The heat drives our portable AC rental business in El Cajon harder than in any other city we cover. A sealed, glazed building with no permanent HVAC yet is genuinely dangerous in an East County August, not merely uncomfortable, and a properly sized spot cooler in the space being worked is cheap against a lost afternoon or a heat-illness incident. In the winter the same equipment goes out as temporary heating for slab cures and drying.

Site security is a bigger concern here than the county average, particularly on jobs sitting idle over a long weekend. Copper, tools and fuel all walk. A lit compound with a cellular security camera trailer on it and a bit of site lighting changes the risk profile materially, and we can put the whole package on one delivery with the power.
